Solva toilets in Lower Car Park at risk to be closed

There’s a real risk that the only public toilets in Solva will be closed when PCC stop paying for them in November this year. How can we have a village with a big visitor’s car park and no public toilets?
PCC and SCC are currently working on making Pembrokeshire and Solva an Age Friendly Community, how does that fit with no public toilet facilities in the village? Surely it would be better that people pay for using them, than having none at all. There is a link to a survey in the latest newsletter, a very long and convoluted one, to get to the questionnaire (included below). It’s really important that people in the village have a say about this, so please complete the questionnaire and pass on the link to other people.

What is Solva Care?

Solva Care is a registered charity set up by the community residing in the parish of Solva and Whitchurch in Pembrokeshire, Wales.

We are committed to building and sustaining a vibrant, strong and connected community, by working closely with our Community Council and other local groups and organisations.

Our aim is to maintain and improve the health and wellbeing of our community by enabling our residents to stay in their own homes and remain part of their community.  We do this by running a volunteer service to provide assistance where needed, as well as running social events to counteract loneliness and isolation; we also provide extra support for those caring for their relatives.

“I volunteered for Solva Care because, as well as doing something for others, it makes me feel better myself.

The things I do are small, not arduous and not particularly time consuming. There is no pressure and it certainly appears to make a difference to lots of people.

From a purely selfish point of view – I may need a little help myself in years to come!”

Reseach and Evaluation

Solva Care is innovative project, and we have built in research and evaluation from the start to shape our activities, and gauge how well we are doing.  If you are interested in hearing more about our plans, or getting involved, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

The Solva Care Toolkit

Solva Care have produced – as part of a Knowledge Mobilisation Project, supported by the Public Health Department of Hywel Dda University Health Board – a Toolkit.

The aim is to share the experience of setting up Solva Care by synthesising the knowledge gained from the success of Solva Care for other communities wishing to set up and run similar initiatives.

We have something for everyone in Solva – young or old!  The mosaics columns in Parc y Capel were a 2022 Solva Care Project, with support from Solva Community Council. The mosaics were made by people in Solva, based on images chosen by relatives, to commemorate those who passed away during Covid 2020-2022. Why not join us in the afternoon for Friday Club? Or there is Thursday’s Coffee Morning or Wednesday’s Luncheon Club?  If you need a lift to get there, just contact our Coordinator.
